Chile, I was in bed, doom-scrolling on TikTok when an interesting video came across my FYP with a Black Woman opening up her video saying, “Where tf did ya’ll get that Dior Lip Oil from that’s turning ya’ll lips Black?”

Immediately, I ran to the comment section to see what the girlies where saying and was quite shocked. Initially Mocawest was eluding to the fact that those who had their lips turn black from the Dior Lip Oil may have purchased from DH Gate or another dupe website. However, women in the comments proved her wrong saying they purchased from Saks, Nordstrom, Sephora and Ulta — reputable places that surely wouldn’t carry counterfeit goods.
I brushed it off as being a one-time video after chatting with a friend about what I had just seen. But after waking up and seeing even more videos of Black women saying it is indeed true, that their lips were turning from the Dior Lip Oil — I knew I had to jump on this reporting.
Now, one would brush the condition off as maybe the women were having “smoker’s lips” but many of the women claimed they don’t smoke and showed proof over time that the product made their lips turn.

Once you search on TikTok #DiorLipOilBlackLips you will see the amount of Black women who have made videos with claims of the lip oil damaging their lips dating back to 2022 — and the brand has yet to address or change the formula.
We’re now in a space where the virility of the topic has resurfaced yet again with another search bar of the videos calling out for a class action lawsuit against Dior Beauty.
Why Is This An Issue?
Let’s get scientific for a minute: The two-toned appearance of lips in people with darker skin tones is a natural result of melanin distribution and the unique anatomy of lip tissue. The outer portion of the lips typically contains more melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color) than the inner portion, creating a distinct gradient effect.
The contrast between the darker outer lip area and the lighter inner portion is more noticeable in individuals with higher melanin levels, particularly Black people. While the intensity of this two-toned effect can vary greatly among individuals, it's important to note that this trait is more likely to be seen on Black men and women — which is why many women are noticing that the Lip Oil from Dior is having an adverse effect on their speakers.
Chile, I have quite a bit to say, but for now, stay tuned as this story develops.
Ahhh! This is likely due to wearing Lip Oils without an SPF lip balm underneath. Oil + sunlight + no protection = hyperpigmentation guaranteeddd. I can see this being a very frequent/ viral complaint as we get into the summer months!
omg wthhhhhhhh! This is the first time I've seen this!
