After attending Afrotech in Houston last week, surrounded by a sea of talented Black folx, my heart is full and I've gained a clearer perspective on navigating the beauty space during these tough times.
During times of social and civil unrest, it's challenging to address the beauty industry we're passionate about. It's crucial to recognize when to read the room and step back and for me, I needed to step back.
However, as we move forward, I’m ready to re-engage with the industry, armed with renewed focus and understanding. It's time to continue my work in the beauty space with this refreshed outlook.
With that said, the purpose of Boy Beat was to talk about beauty in my own way. I've now reached my first anniversary as a fulltime freelancer/entrepreneur and couldn't be more proud of myself and what I've built with Boy Beat.
To honor this milestone, I'm launching a new series called "The Gospel According To Boy Beat". In this weekly feature, I'll dive into my top 5 beauty products, covering everything from timeless classics to exciting new launches and cool discoveries that I'm currently obsessing over.

Soft Services Theraplush Hold
This stuff is good! If the goal for you is to have baby-butter-soft-smooth hands, this is the hand cream for you. The packaging alone is enough for anyone to spend the coins on it. (I mean, the founders are Glossier alum, so you know they have a natural eye for shit that pops.) Also, the scent for this cream is lovely and very chic. It’s not overpowering or irritating, which is a plus for those of us who put on hand cream mistakenly and then take our contacts out. (IYKYK.)

Tbh, I always count on my Tom Ford fragrances when I want to serve seductive, sex-kitten and this Black Lacquer scent meets those expectations. With key notes of Makassar ebony wood, birch and dark peony accord, this fragrance creates a confident, memorable presence.

Yes, I had to call this in after Jackie gave such a top tier review. I’m not an eyeshadow girlie and probably won’t be wearing this over my lids, but I’m gonna get really creative with this one. (TikTok coming soon.) Do I think this duo is worth the $$ everyone’s fussing about on social media? TLDR: HYFR! Don’t ever play with Patrick Ta’s top like that, mkay!
