TSA (Top Shelf Approved) Is BoyBeat’s monthly edit of the best beauty launches that are worth opening your purse for and most importantly that deserve a spot on your top shelf — approved by none other than Stixx M.
Welcome to 2024 friends. As a beauty editor and overall lover of all things fresh and fabulous, I always look forward to what’s to come from brands in the new year. There’s something so enthralling about getting the tea from brand reps + founders as they dish to me on what’s to come in the pending quarters.
For January of 2024, the girls came out swinging with sex-themed fragrances, and skincare products to get your regime back together after weeks of indulging in clogged artery foods and much champagne + wine. From Tom Ford’s controversial “Vanilla Sex” scent to Rhode’s “Pineapple Refresh” Cleanser — these are the five drops of the month that are worth your coins.
The INKEY List - Bio-Active Ceramide Repairing and Plumping Moisturizer
First of all, I’m a huge fan of moisturizers. I have a running + proven theory that you need to switch out your winter + spring moisturizers, espeically if you wear makeup to get those top-tier results. I tried this newbie from The INKEY List over the holidays, and the way it comforted and cocooned my skin from those harsh weather conditions I was experiencing down south!! The ceramide’s infused in this moisturizer is beyond,. Hydration is unmatched.
Rhode “Pineapple Refresh” Cleanser
As I sit here writing this, and applying my limited-edition Passionfruit Peptide Lip Treatment from Rhode — I have to transparently admit that I am not the biggest fan of celeb-backed beauty brands. However, Miss Bieber knows what she’s doing when it comes to Rhode and the “Pineapple Refresh” cleanser stamps and approves that. There are many facial cleansers on the market that feel great going on, but give you that tight and dry feeling once your skin starts to settle — but this one is not one of them. I promise.
Briogeo Scalp Revival Rosemary Pre-Wash Scalp and Hair Oil
Listen, contrary to popular belief, there’s intense dandruff and an itchy scalp underneath my waves. I tried the Scalp Revival Rosemary Pre-Wash oil and whn I tell you, my scalp was given everlasting life. Granted Rosemary is having a time right now, and she could’ve been used as a buzzy word without the results — but that’s just not the Briogeo style. I left it in overnight with my drug on and washed it out the next morning for the most effective results. I highly recommend trying for those bald-headed baddies.
Tom Ford Beauty “Vanilla Sex” Eau de Parfum
Vanilla is another one of those buzz words that fragrance houses are having a field day with. Some hit the nail on the head while others have put out pure pickle juice into the world — but if you thought Tom Ford Beauty was going to be one of the pickle juice girlies, you were wrong. Online, folks have described themselves as being underwhelmed with the Vanilla-based scent, but for me the Ultravanil Accord ignites my sultry senses. Dare I say this perfume is an aphrodisiac? (Okay, that may be a bit far, but I’m serious.)
Flamingo - Dermaplane Razor
I had never even thought about dermaplaning on my own before, but Flamingo truly convinced me that I could be a pro at it. I highly suggest trying this tool ahead of doing your makeup — the beat is going to come out flawless. Priced at $14 USD, you’ll receive a luxe, practically weightless tool that’s accompanied with two Japanese steel blades that get the job done.
