In my professional opinion, 2023 was thee year of beauty trends. Everywhere we looked, someone was talking about a “Strawberry Girl,” Russian Manicures, “Latex Lips” and more.
For many of us that consider ourselves beauty enthusiasts , keeping up with the latest and greatest has been second nature. We've always followed the developments, tracked the trends and immersed ourselves in the ever-evolving world of beauty. However, it has notably been the years following the panini that uncovered what we really want out of our beauty routines and standards and the various sides of BeautyTok has been at the leading forefront.
Heading into 2024, Miss Thing is serious about what she wants out of her beauty. 2023 showed us a snippet of what to expect. The girlies are retiring their wigs and going back to the 2010-ish traditional sewins. (The girls that get it, get it.) As for celebrities, I’ve said it time and time before, but they don’t want to look like “us,” hence the headlines for many of our fave A-listers such as Blac Chyna going the route of having thier BBLs and other cosmetic enhancements removed. And guess what? The gworls are going that route as well — leaning into more natural features. Opting for injectables opposed to full-on fillers and botox.
If you know me, you know that I’m inherently one of the go-to baddies that the girls flock to, to get the industry tea and I have a few thoughts. Ahead you’ll find the top four beauty trends that have set themselves up to win in 2024.
2010s Traditional Sewin
I may not be that old, but I can def remember during the 2010s when a traditional sew-in with Cambodian or Brazilian hair was the TEA. Back then, when you purchased three bundles of hair, you really did get three full bundles. The richness and fullness of the hair and the skill in the sewin technique were elements that made this style highly sought after.

Over the years, hair trends have shifted dramatically. Closures and wigs, in particular, have become the go-to choices for many. The convenience they offer, along with the variety of styles, have made them almost indispensable in the hair styling world. However, this shift isn't for everyone. For those who aren't well-versed or experienced in styling their own hair, or are not fans of the wiggy look, the quest to find a stylist who can still skillfully create a traditional, regular sewin has proven to be a significant challenge.
HairTok has spoken though. With #sewin amassing over 844 million views, the girls are on to something for 2024, and I truly believe we’re going to see a comeback of this beloved style in the most major way.
BBL/Filler Reversal and Removal
I have this theory that celebrities are always switching trends when it becomes too mainstream or accessible, because they don’t want to look like the general public. Before many of us were able to have access to achieve a Blac Chyna, K. Michelle or Kim Kardashian-esque body, they were only a dream.
Now, especially in urban culture, when you have starlets like SZA and Summer Walker laying on a table, having enhancements done, the girls want THAT look…and they want it badly. The sad news for us is the celebs def don’t want to be in the same group with “the gworls” so, they’re having life-changing and news-breaking procedures done to have their BBLs and Fillers removed.
Lip Oils
Blame it on the Dior Lip Oils. Those babies became a cult-favorite and soon after, beauty brands caught on. Lip Glosses will always be a crowd fave, but 2023 has shown us that the gworls want lip oils and they want them now! e.l.f. Cosmetics’ #elfglowreviver lip oils recently took over the scene having all shades and hues literally OBSESSED!
With the shade ranges they lip oils offer, my only callout is that I wished they were more pigmented in color payoff, but nevertheless, they serve.

Hand Exfoliators
This year, brands such as Nécessaire and SIDIA have shaken the tables by bringing hand exfoliation and repair methods into the limelight with their product launches.
Looking ahead to 2024, the focus will extend beyond the skin on our faces. The importance of skincare will encompass the entire body, with special attention given to the hands. This shift recognizes that our skin, the body's largest organ, requires comprehensive care and that each part, from our face to our feet, plays a huge role in our overall health and well-being.
